serina: spittingonhegel: The u.s. government has done a really good job, through cooperation with mass media, of legitimizing an excessively militarized police force to the extent that they mobilized every nook and cranny of fbi, homeland security, swat teams with snipers, decked out in full camo in urban space, people clapping and cheering as they drove by, raiding houses. mrgan: Here’s a typical screenshot of Apple’s Weather app. It shows the current temperature and the forecast for today’s high and low temperatures. (Let’s ignore all the other data for the moment.) Notice anything? Today’s “low” is predicted as 43º, and the high as 61º. Yet it is currently cooler… I was wondering why this occurs so often.

Geeks and Sports
As both a (unfortunately former athlete) and a current geek, it amuses me how geeks feel slighted with others are dismissive of their geekery, but then dismiss athletes. Some would argue that athletes receive too much fame and attention for their exploits. I would counter with StarWars, Star Trek and Big Bang Theory (plus Think Geek, Threadless, etc), as these all celebrate the geek and help...
